FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS Today and Friday:
Tonight through Friday: Scattered storms continue tonight, becoming more widespread and thus increasing the flood threat. Rainfall is very efficient from some of these storms and we’ve already had some flooding in spots including St. Charles and St. Peters.
The Flood Watch goes through Friday evening because the front stalls and more storms bubble up. This flooding will likely be more contained and not as widespread as the heavier wave from Thursday night into Friday morning. But, where storms do develop off and on from morning to evening, let’s be alert for flash flooding. The severe risk Friday for the afternoon through the evening is low but includes severe damaging winds and an isolated tornado threat. Storms should become much more isolated at some point Friday evening and total rainfall from today through Friday evening will range from 1″ to 3″ but isolated areas could see 3-5″. Saturday: The stalled front slowly begins to lift northward, triggering a 40% chance for some new thunderstorm development in the morning and afternoon. There are indications that some of these storms could pose a low-end risk of severe weather. For now, this risk appears very low, but we’ll monitor it for a First Alert Weather Day. Meanwhile, it will be a bit warmer and even more humid.
Dangerous Heat Next Week: Sunday through at least Wednesday are now First Alert weather days for dangerous heat. The temps will be hot, but the humidity will be excessive and miserable, making the peak heat index each day from 105 to 110. And we may extend the First Alert Weather Days if confidence grows on that danger zone of heat and humidity sticking around later in the week, which is certainly possible.
