The NFL fined Texans receiver Jaylin Noel $8,165 for a facemask committed after a second-quarter reception in Houston's Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans. KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson reported the fine earlier in the week, so the league's confirmation was expected. Noel is a second-year receiver out of Iowa State, drafted in the third round at No. 79 overall in 2025. He also returns kicks and punts. He missed the start of the season after a pinkie injury he suffered while working out before training camp, and the Texans reinstated him from the non-football injury list on August 7. Head coach DeMeco Ryans welcomed him back with a simple line: “great seeing ‘J-Noel' back out on the field.”
How the Fine Compares
The league could have charged $11,941 for a first-time infraction and up to $17,911 for a second. Noel's fine landed below both figures and below the usual amount for facemask calls. No other Texans player was fined for the game, although the NFL can still fine players for uncalled plays after reviewing them.

Noel's role has grown since his rookie year. In 2025, he returned 31 punts for 335 yards and 29 kickoffs for 799 yards, finishing with 1,438 all-purpose yards. Last season he caught 26 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games, with three starts. A fine that small will not change that workload, but it is a reminder that the league watches the play after the whistle.
Robinson's Hip-Drop Flag
Titans cornerback Micah Robinson was fined $5,583 for unnecessary roughness on a hip-drop tackle. The hit came in the first quarter, on a kickoff that Noel returned, and Robinson received credit for the stop.
The rulebook bars a tackler from grabbing the runner with one or both hands or wrapping the runner with both arms. It also bars him from swiveling and dropping his hips or lower body to land on or trap the runner's leg at or below the knee. The flag gives Robinson one strike toward a one-game suspension, and two more in the same category would trigger it.
